This site features the work of the Museum of Kitchenalia – an independent collection owned by Emma Kay, with a mission to identify, preserve and interpret objects and ephemera specifically relating to the traditions and practices of the British kitchen. It is not a museum in the traditional sense with display cases and a tea shop. Rather, it is a private collection signifying about fifteen years of hoarding Kitchenalia and related objects from the eighteenth to the twentieth century. Emma’s background is as a Museum Professional who worked in major institutions such as The National Maritime Museum,The British Museum and the University of Bath. She is qualified in History and Conservation as well all areas of Heritage Management and Archaeology at Post-Graduate level.
Emma researches,writes about and interprets all aspects of the evolution of the British kitchen and culinary heritage from the eighteenth century. She has written five books exploring the History of Cooking and Dining, including Dining with the Georgians, Dining with the Victorians (Amberley Publishing), Cooking up History: Chefs of the Past (Prospect Books), Vintage Kitchenalia (Amberley Publishing) and More than a sauce – Worcestershire’s Culinary History, also with Amberley, due for publication in March 2018.
Emma is a member of The Guild of Food Writers.
The Museum of Kitchenalia aims to expand both its network of stakeholders,enhance and grow the existing collection and explore new ways in which to interpret the history of cooking and dining using a variety of educational tools.
